Organic Farming and its Benefits

Organic farming has carved its way into the agricultural field, where it began in the first ha of the last century. Organic farming is a process of using organic and earthly materials like manure, compost etc. to grow healthy and pesticide-free crops. They replace the use of chemical and harmful products like pesticides, herbicides and other inorganic fertilizers that harm the crops in the long run. The main advantage of it is the maintenance of the quality of soil and the ecosystem, thereby keeping humans away from harmful chemicals.

The main philosophy behind the employment of organic farming is to live in harmony with nature without the use of harmful chemicals. The idea is deeply rooted in countries like India, China and Andes. The early 20th century marked the beginning of the organic, biodynamic and natural methods of farming which falls under the umbrella of organic farming. The process of this kind of farming has only been a boon to nature and humans.

The benefits of Organic Farming

Apart from the one’s mentioned above, there are various benefits of organic farming:

  • Elimination of exposure to pesticides: if not for organic agriculture, humans have exposed it almost 500 million pounds of pesticides every year, which exposes humans to harmful diseases. The use of pesticides and herbicides not only cause hazardous dangers human but also to the environment. The synthetic materials present in these harmful chemicals are responsible for smart farming methods like crop rotation and crop cultivation. The use of organic methods of farming puts a full spot to all these hazardous effects.Graden
  • Improves soil health: Healthy crops cannot be cultivated without healthy soil, and the natural cultivation methods have proven this point, over the synthetic ways of soil and crop cultivation. The study conducted by USDA Agricultural Research Services proves that the organic methods of farming improves soil quality and is better for the crops when compared to the conventional synthetic farming methods.
  • Reduces soil erosion: It is one of the significant problems in hilly areas that employ terrace farming. Like mentioned above, organic farming techniques enhance the soil quality, hence combating against issues like soil erosion, thus saving the lad from erosion of the top layer and the healthy layer of soil.
  • Fighting against global warming: The Rodale Institute framing system trail is the longest-running trial since 1981, that is about the benefits of employing organic agricultural methods, that help in reducing the release of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. This not only helps minimize global warming but also helps in drastic improvement in the climatic conditions.Farming
  • Water health and conservation: Dwindling water is a severe problem in today’s agricultural world. Various American studies show that the significant reason for pollution of the rivers and lakes across the farms and agricultural fields is the extensive use of pesticides and herbicides in the plants. By using organic methods of farming and manure, these harmful effects can be reduced which will not only prevent pollution of water bodies but also help in conservation, and the soil will absorb less water when compared to the latter.
